Holbrooks is rich in history and has undergone many changes over the last forty years. Residents have adapted to changes and come together to support new initiatives. In 1980’s Holbrooks residents, with the support of Vince Hill and the congregation of St Lukes Church, compiled a book about the history of Holbrooks. Knowing how important this book was to local people, Holbrook Community Care Association wrote to the heritage lottery fund and asked for a grant to work on a book for the community to capture more memories and leave a lasting record of Holbrooks. This is an opportunity to support community cohesion, share memories and celebrate community. We will be running fortnightly on a Wednesday 2:00pm - 4:00 pm at Holbrooks Community Care Association, 115 Holbrook Lane, Coventry, CV6 4DE Each session will have a theme, please see the details as follows.. 17th May - Transport and travel 31st May - Engineering and factories 7th June - Communities 21st June - Picture houses & the Lyric bingo 5th July - Community centers and social clubs 19th July - Shops 2nd August - Gasworks / Arena 16th August - Keresley Colliery 30th August - Places of worship 13th September - Conflicts WW 1 & 2 27th September - Housing 11th October - Schools 25th October - Ancient History If you have any old photographs, newspaper articles, or any other interesting artifacts from the "good old days" in Holbrooks that you are willing to share, please bring them to Holbrooks Community Care Association for us to scan in on Tuesday and Thursday between 9:30 and 4:30 pm or Wednesdays between 12:00 and 7:00 pm
